What Sells Best on HeroesAndMore
Retro game collectors prize sealed-in-shrink and complete-in-box (CIB) examples. Knowing the platforms and titles that move helps you list at the right price.
Sealed Retro (NES, SNES, N64)
Sealed first-print Nintendo titles command serious premiums. NES black-box launch titles, SNES first-prints (Super Mario World, Zelda: A Link to the Past), and sealed N64 cartridges trade for thousands. WATA-graded sealed copies routinely break record prices at auction. Identify the print variant (oval seal, hangtab, no-rev) — this dramatically affects value.
CIB Cartridges
Complete-in-box NES, SNES, Sega Genesis, and N64 games with the original sleeve, manual, and any inserts (poster, registration card) sell at strong premiums over loose cartridges. Photograph the box flaps, manual condition, and any accessories. Mention if the cardboard tray and dust sleeve are included.
Sealed & CIB Consoles
Sealed launch consoles (NES, SNES, N64, PS1, Saturn, Dreamcast, Game Boy, Game Boy Advance SP) attract premium buyers. CIB consoles with all original cables, controllers, and packaging also sell well. Limited editions (gold N64, Pokemon-themed handhelds) command top dollar.
Modern Collectibles
Limited Run Games, Special Reserve Games, Strictly Limited, and Iam8bit physical releases for Switch and PS5 sell quickly when sealed. PS1 long-box JRPGs and Sega Saturn imports are an active niche. Sealed Pokemon, Zelda, and Mario titles from any era are perennials.
Grading, Photography & Pricing Tips
Should You Grade?
WATA, VGA, and CGC Video Games grade sealed and CIB titles. Grading makes financial sense for sealed first-print Nintendo, sealed PS1 long-boxes, and any title with raw value above $300-$500. Lower-value games typically don't justify grading fees and turnaround time. A WATA 9.4 A+ or VGA 90+ can multiply a sealed game's value 2-5x.
Photograph the Seal
For sealed games, photograph the front, back, and all four corners of the box. Show the shrink wrap clearly — buyers look for original factory seal vs. resealed. For CIB, photograph the sleeve, the cartridge label (no scratches, no marker), and the manual condition. For graded games, capture the entire slab and the certification number.
Pricing Strategy
Use Heritage Auctions, Goldin, and recent eBay sold listings for sealed and graded comparables. PriceCharting is the best baseline for raw and CIB cartridges. Because we charge as low as 5.95% versus eBay's 13%+, you can price competitively and still take home more. For sealed first-print or graded grail pieces, our auction format with anti-sniping pulls in serious bids.
