The background of this series is uncertain and it is not included in any of the standard reference books of Australian-drawn comics. It is reported to have been created by Guido Scala, either in Italy or while working in Australia. In "Conversazione con Carlo Chendi: da Pepito alla Disney e oltre: cinquant'anni di fumetto vissuti da protagonista" (Tunué: 2006), Carlo Chendi and Sergio Badino have a footnote reporting Scala moved from Italy to Australia in the mid-1950s, where he created Sergeant Bottleneck. In 1959 he returned to Italy and worked for a range of Italian and international publishers before undertaking his most well-known work on Disney characters.
