For Beginners (1983, Writers & Readers Publishing)

For Beginners ran for 95 issues (1983–2001). Publishing format: was ongoing series. Some volumes reprinted from original Writers & Readers Cooperative series. Most volumes co-published in the U.K. by sister company Writers & Readers Limited. Hardcover editions of some volumes were also published (https://www.comics.org/series/161505/). Many volumes reprinted by For Beginners LLC beginning 2007, following their acquisition of the rights from the defunct Writers & Readers companies. Richard Appignanesi, who had been the first editor in London for the series and had also written several of the titles, co-created the new publisher Icon Books. In 1992 Icon Books also began reprinting some of the original W&R Cooperative titles. They later retitled them Introducing.... So for some titles the original contents were revised rather than reprinted. Meanwhile, the New York-based Writers and Readers continued the For Beginners series, in several cases commissioning new authors to create replacement books for those being published in Britain. This led to a number of examples where the two ranges were publishing two different books on the same subject.
