Information supplied in Sepia v30 #6, 1981, a magazine for African American readership: "Leader Comics Group, a new black company, is currently testing a new comic book, 'Blackman,' in the Dallas Fort Worth, metroplex. Conceptualized by Tom Floyd, a Gary, Ind., commercial artist, and soon to be marketed on the national level, 'Blackman' was designed to present minority youth with a role model who stamps out criminals, drug pushers and illiteracy."
